Gabriella was in class... Waiting for the bell to ring for the free period. When it finally did, she quickly picked her things up and headed to her locker to leave her books. When she was done she made her way towards the library. It was one of her favorite places in the whole school... All those books... The smell of paper... She just adored it. Plus she ahd to do some research for the Scolastic Decathlon's next experiment.
She pushed the door open and walked in, greeting the book keeper with a smile as she headed to the science section, to pick some books. When she found what she was looking for she took a seat and opened the books in front of her, taking notes when she found something that could help her

Jackie Montez walked into the library, the smell of dusty, boring books making her wrinkle her nose. She didn't know why people LIKED to come here. It was so quiet and lifeless. But she knew Gabby, her sister, would be here and she needed to talk to her. So, she began to search through the aisles, having no method to her search since she didn't know how the books were catagorized. She eventually ended up in front of the dvd and magazine section. Jackie's face showed her surprise. She had no idea libraries had magazines and movies you could rent. Maybe getting one of those card things wouldn't be such a waste...but that wasn't why she'd come.
Finally she spotted her sisters wavey dark hair and sat down next to her at the table. With no regard to her volume she said, "Jeeze, this place is like a frikin maze."

Gabriella kept searching through the pages of the books, taking notes every now and then when she found something that she could use for the Decathlon team. She started reading a chapter from one of the books, tat seemed really interesting and immediately zoned out, blocking ever other noise, like it always happened when she was concentrated at reading something. Suddenly a loud voice made her snap out of it and turned her head to see her sister, Jackie sitting next to her.
Gabriella's eyes opened widely... This was definitely NOT the place she expected to see her sister. She noticed the book keeper staring at them angrily "Jackie!! Keep your voice down! This is a library in case you haven't noticed!" she said with a low voice. Then she turned to the book keeper "Sorry! she apologized. Anyway... Wat are you doing here anyways?" she asked her sister, a questioning look on her face

"Jeeze!" Jackie hissed under her breath, automatically flinching away from her sisters harsh words. Gabby was usually such a push-over but since they had moved she'd become so...vocal. At first Jackie was thrilled to see her sister talking back to her and her commands but it was getting annoying. She wished it was a faze but Gabriella's confidence just kept growing.
As her sister apologized to the bookkeeper she rolled her eyes, thinking that she was taking speaking normally a bit far. So it was a library? So what! Jackie would speak however she pleased wherever she pleased. She sort of wondered if that was why they'd stopped forcing her to go to church. She didn't really care, though. She was glad to be rid of it.
"Good to see you too." She replied sarcastically to her sisters obvious longing to be rid of her. Then she leaned on the table and, looking like she wasn't going anywhere soon, said, "You're friends with that Sharpay girl, right?"

Gabriella shook her head when she heard what her sister said "Well, there are signs Jackie... That say do not shout in the library" she said with a low voice "And I am happy to see you, I'm just surprised that you stepped foot in the library" she said copying a few sentences from the book in front of her and then closed it turning her attention to Jackie when she heard her questions "Friends with Sharpay... That's a good one Jackie!" she said sighing I mean... I guess that we get along the last few months... At least that's what I think, and hope, since I'm really not in a condition to put up with another one of her infamous plans" she said letting out another sigh "Why do you ask?"

Song walked into the library and went straight for the receptionist's desk. 'Hey, thought I'd hand this in- sorry it came so late.'
The librarian gave him a resigned sigh which quite clearly said, 'Well, better late than never...'
'Umm... has that book I reserved come back in yet?'
The lady at the desk began typing at the computer, and Song turned around and looked around at the library. Packed to the brim with books, yet hopelessly empty of people. People just didn't seem that interested in books anymore. Well, if anything, it was a quiet place to work, so he came here often when he had to catch up on work he hadn't managed to hand in on time. There were the few regulars- the students with their noses way deep into their science, maths... all that stuff.
'Sorry, it hasn't come in yet.'
'Who's got it at the moment?'
'A senior called... Gabriella Montez.'
'...Okay, never heard of her... well, thanks anyway.'
He wandered back off among the shelves, looking for the next installment of the series he was reading. Or maybe he should get some books that would actually help him with his work for once. He was trying to find something fresh for his new musical, but nothing was coming up. And there were few people who he knew could sing. And it was going to strike him dead if he counted on Sharpay for anything. That would be musical suicide.
As he looked at the books, he wondered how each of them felt to the outside eye- vanishing into the background, like an ambivalence, an ephemera. No matter how hard he tried, he just seemed to be a part of the backdrop, because he never took centre stage. Smiling a little sadly, he continued walking across the shelves, and straight into a girl with straight black hair and eyes that looked like she was ready to kill him.
'Ah, sorry... I just zoned out...'

Jackie ignored her sister's common sense reply about their being signs. Everyone knew those were just guidelines. What could they do? Kick you out? What she said about her being in a library made the eldest Montez girl snort.
"Chya, tell me about it." Jackie turned serious and leaned forward. "Did you know they have magazines and DVDs here?" Honestly, it was like she had gained new understanding about Libraries. Not that she wanted to spend allot more time here, or anything. They were still totally geeky. Besides, it wasn't like she couldn't afford to just go to Blockbuster or buy the magazines...well..sort of.
Then she remembered to ask her question. The reason she had come. She could have simply called her but (she'd never admit it) she was bored and had forgotten what the dusty old building was like. Now she remembered why she didn't come here. Gabby acted like Jackie was joking, signaling that Sharpay and her weren't BFFs. And Jackie had been so sure...
"So, you're not friends." Jackie sighed, displeased with the information. She didn't answer Gabriella's question but rather stood and slung her bag over her arm. Just as she was tossing her hair over her shoulder she felt a bump. Jackie spilled forward, catching her balance on the table. She turned to see whom had run into her, her eyes like glowing embers.
"Excuse you!" She shouted, not caring about her volume. His explanation didn't seem good enough. "You zoned out? You nearly ran me over!"

Song blinked, as if he was still waking up from whatever zone he had wandered off to. Then the cynicism clicked, and the words sank in. Okay, fine, it was him being an idiot. He shouldn't have lost focus like that. However, where most people would quite happily just say 'it's fine, don't worry about it', this girl seemed to take it as a personal challenge to her space, existence, and Prada shoulder bag. She wasn't most people, so she deserved a not-most-people response, which he was all too happy to give.
'Well, I apologise. I shouldn't have lost concentration like that. But even though I'd assume by your obvious lack of volume control that you find it difficult to moderate your tone, that shouldn't in any case affect your reading skills-'
He gestured to the 'quiet in the library' sign behind him on the wall.
'Anyway, putting your vocal amplitude aside, I'm sorry for bumping into you. It was my fault entirely. Let's start over.'
He noticed that another girl was behind her- same dark hair, but her eyes didn't look as if she wanted to send him on a cartride to hell like this person did. Well, that was a small comfort. That made one person who didn't want to kill him. Yay.
Back to this one.
He held out his hand with a smile. 'Hi, my name's Song. Nice to meet you.'

At her sister's question about DVD's and magazines Gabriella nodded smiling "Yes... I was aware of the fact... The DVD's are pretty good actually..." she said shaking her head "Especially the ones like Hamlet or Othello that are the actual movies of the books, which are quite helpful for people who are too bored to read the books... But I do both... First read the book and then watch the movie" she said shrugging her shoulders
"So, you're not friends."
Gabriella shook her head "It's not that I didn't try to get along with her... But after what happened with the Winter Musical, I'm kind f keeping my distance Gabriella said again shrugging her shoulders one more time "I'm friends with her brother though" she added
She noticed her sister getting up, without answering her question, and she turned her attention to her notes, when she suddenly heard her sister shouting. almost screaming, and quickly looked up to see what happened, and saw her siser holding on the table "Jackie are you alright? she asked quickly with concern, her older sister
She heard the bpy who bumped on her ister apologizing and Gabriella gave him a smal smile "Jackie... At least he apologized..." she said with a low voice, trying to calm her sister down

Song almost rolled his eyes. A blissfully unaware, sinfully nice girl who just wanted to help everybody. People like this were usually no fun, because they claimed that everybody was good, and that nothing was really their fault, and that there was something else that made them that way, etc. etc. Which usually led to the belief that nothing was THEIR fault either. Meh. Arguments with these people usually ended up with them running off in tears or calling their friends. Not very fun at all.
But maybe that was just because he was a bad person. He liked people like that, really. They were really honest, and they were good fun to have around. Maybe it was because he'd become so used to arguing that it had become a part of him as well. Ew. Depressing thought.
'Thanks. And you...'
He stopped as he noticed the book beside the girl- no, not the one with the crazy algorithmawotsits and frightening equations- it was a novel, 'Inkheart'. And it was also the one which he had been waiting for in the library for ages. What was the name of the person who had taken it out before him? Agh, forgotten already...
'Hey, is that... that novel you're reading...'

Jackie stared at him with large eyes. What was he going on about? She kept wanting to jump in after words she understood and yell at him some more, since that was her gift, especially after he jabbed her about her volume (reminding her of her sister, jeeze..bookworms were all alike). Yet, he continued, confusing her with words like amplitude. Finally he ended by apologizing. Normally she would have picked the fight back up and not let him off so easily but she was so bewildered and he ended on a good note so she pretended as if she hadn't been confused.
"It's..fine." She responded slowly, her brain slowly processing how to react. "Jackie." She shook his hand before realizing she was doing it, since she wasn't one to touch strangers, especially foreigners. Still, even though her actions were forgiving her face still held her icy glare, though it was now tinted with a dazed bewilderment.
Then Jackie heard her sister speak, or rather guilt trip her. Ugh, had she not seen that he had run into her? Finally she was thinking properly again and turned to give her sister a 'puh-lease' sort of snarl. Then she spotted the bookkeeper who had shushed her earlier making his way back, his eyes solely on the eldest Montez. No doubt he wanted to join in on the guilt fest. 'Jackie, you're such a snob!' 'Jackie, don't be so selfish.' 'Jackie, I'd assume by your obvious lack of volume control that you find it difficult to moderate your tone!' Honestly.
Song started a new topic, proving his nerdy-ness and reason for belonging in a dusty, geek-infested building by asking about Gabriella's book. This only added to her wanting to leave so she took this a good hint to just go. Besides which the bookkeeper was closing in.
"Okay, well, I'll see you at home, Gabby." She turned to go.

Gabriella noticed her sister's glare and quickly turned her attention on the book... She usually avoided arguing or going against Jackie. Over the years she learned that it was the best thing to do... When she said that she would see her at home Gabriella looked up and nodded with her head "See you at home" she repeated. Then she turned to the boy "Nice to meet you... I'm Gabriella" she said with a small smile. She heard him asking about the novel she was reading and looked at the book. "Inkheart".
Gabriella usually finished a book in a ay or teo but lately she had been busy with the decathlon so she did;t have the time to finish the book... She was reading one or two pages top, when she had some free time, which lately was rare, since she had the decathlon meetings, studying, and helping Troy with his homework... "The novel?" she asked zoning out momentarily, lost in her own thoughts "Oh! Inkheart! Yes..." she said quickly, snapping out of her thoughts

'Bye, Jackie.'
She seemed quite interesting. Even though he had hoped she would have held out for longer, he supposed that it was good to know someone else's limits. A lot of people just thought that he was weird. Ah well, they could think what they liked. Why should he make an effort to make anybody understand him? He sometimes wished that there were more than just one person in the school who wasn't so dug into these stupid cliques. There just weren't enough crazy people out there who weren't taking drugs.
"Oh! Inkheart! Yes..."
Song looked at her for a moment, then burst into quiet laughter. 'Haha... I never would have guessed... so YOU'RE the one who's had it all along! I wouldn't have known that one of you sciency people were into fantasy...!'
Hold up. He'd just judged a person by their clique. Must be losing his touch. But then, he realised that here was someone who was not bogged down by their clique. Okay, sure, the fact that a bookworm read a different kind of books wasn't that big a deal, but it was a start. Maybe there were more facets to this person than he'd thought.
'I'm sorry,' he apologised. 'I judged way too soon... looks like I've been in too deep over this whole clique thing without knowing...'
He sat down beside her, but he kept his distance. He didn't want to give the wrong impression by intruding on her private space. 'Although, I don't understand. I didn't know who you were before...'
Something clicked, and he caught a momentary glimse in his mind of a name below a sheet for call-backs...
'Wait a minute... weren't you one of those people who auditioned for the part of Minnie...? That means you can sing, right?'
What kind of idiot was he? I swear never to judge by cliques again...

Gabriella bit her lip with guilt "You wanted it?" she asked "I'm so sorry I'm taking so long... It's just things got in the way lately and I didn;t have the time to finish it... she apologised. At the sciency people Gabriella laughed "Wow, that's a new one... I've heard people calling me freaky math girl etc, but sciency people is something that I haven't heard before! she said smiling as she shook her head "Though, I take the time to read other things, not just science and maths" she aded still smiling
When he apoloised Gabriella smiled once again "No worries...It's not like I'm not used to it!" she said shrugging her shoulders "After all, this school is all about sticking to the status quo..." Gabriella said again, asshe moved the science book a bit so she could adjust her notes on the table
When she heard his question about Twinkle Town, Gabriella simply shook her head "I did;t actually auditioned... It was a bit complicated... And without knowing it I ended up playing Minnie at Twinkle Town!" she said shrugging her shoulders once again "And... I guess I can...

Song looked away briefly. This girl could sing. And apparently, she could sing well. He had never heard her sing so, but he would've guessed that she had at least SOME merit. No, that was stupid. She had beaten out Sharpay. That meant that not only did she have an outrageous talent, but also some form of herculean will-power to beat the evil dominator of the drama world. Thankfully, she had yet to completely take over the music department- and it would stay that way if he could help it.
Stick to the status quo? Whatever. He had been put in this school to break rules, and a stupid rule as this was never going to fly if he had anything to do with it. Making up his mind, he gestured to Gabriella.
'Practice room,' he said with a toss of his head towards the door. 'Now.'
This girl could sing. And he would be damned if he didn't hear it.
'Come on! I want to hear you sing!'
((If you comply, should we continue this thread in one of the practice rooms? ^^))
