Kelsi sat in the shade of a tree, shafts of light falling onto her head and her paper before her. She had drawn a treble clef on the staff at the top of the page. Her pencil scratched the paper as she filled in a quarter note. She always used pencils; too many things could need changing. The sun flashed across her glasses as she shifted her head, staring at the paper, as if looking at it in a different light would change her thought process.
A leaf landed upon her paper, which was set atop her lap, and she brushed it off, once again losing her concentration. It wasn’t that she didn’t know where to go next in the song; there were just too many things that she could go. She had a million solutions mulling around in her skull, but only one could be ultimately picked, as she couldn’t decide.
She lifted the sheet before placing it inside a folder and placing her pencil behind her ear. She stood, moving from her shaded area and slinging a bag behind her shoulder, which now held her music. A slight humming came from her chest as she headed over as she sat on a swing, pushing herself lightly from the ground, her feet dragging through the dirt.

It was a great day too be outside! It wasn't to hot and it wasn't too cold. A perfect day. Xander Donova thought this as he was skating his skate board down the sidewalk. The park was one of the few places that still allowed skateboards. He did a simple trick on his skate board as he came around a corner. He looked over at the playground and saw the quiet drama girl sitting by herself on the swings.
She was working on something... Xander had heard she was involved with the whole Winter Musical fiasco of last year. She didn't seem like a riot causer. Xander also noticed at school that she was always sitting at Sharpay's table. This caught his attention as he did want Sharpay to notice him.
He smiled and stopped, flipping his board up into his hand. Xander approached her with a smile and a wave, "Hey!"

Kelsi, however, did not notice the wave, nor the smile. In fact, she didn’t even look up when he called her, as she assumed he was hailing someone else. She however, did look up after a moment, when she realized she was, indeed, the only other person in the park. Her humming ceased abruptly.
She looked up and grinned, albeit a bit shyly, when she saw him. She recognized him from school, but that didn’t do much for her. Her school had quite a few males in it. She stopped her swinging, if it could be called that, and stood.
“Hi.” She managed lamely, looking to him. She tried to think up something interesting to say, but her mind was full of music notes and melodies, so all that she managed was a slight mumble, of ‘how are you’. Inaudible? Yes.

Xander waited, she looked like she was about to say something else...but nothing came out. Only something that was mumbled. He looked confused at first but decided to continue onward, "I'm Xander." he held out his other hand that wasn't holding his board. "I've seen you around school...you're the music girl, right?" She was somewhat of a mystery to him. He wanted to learn more about her before saying anything about Sharpay.

Kelsi stared at him, finding it all rather odd. She didn’t even see why he was still even talking to her. Usually people simply managed a greeting, if that, and then simply continued on their way, figuring she wasn’t interested in speaking. She reached for his hand, shaking it. Even with her rather shaky nature, she still had a firm handshake, as she was sure it was what people were looking for anyway.
“Yeah.” she answered, forcing a smile. “I’m Kelsi.” She was trying to figure out why he knew anything about her, but she supposed her passion for music had become more known than she had assumed. Did that many people honestly pay attention to ‘Twinkle Town’? It couldn’t have been much else; she hardly left the music room excepting for classes and home. As she watched him, she realized his face stuck out in his memory a bit more than the other boys, and she couldn’t quite place why. So, she watched him, having very little to say. She imagined he would simply leave soon enough, irritated by the fact she made such poor conversation.

"Cool, Kelsi." Xander smiled and nodded his head. He put one hand in his pocket the other still holding his board. He didn't seem to notice that she really wasn't talking too much. Xander was a talker at times so this was fine. He did want her to relax though. He glanced at her paper, "So, what are you working on?"

She smiled the tiniest bit, her eyes darting to the paper sticking from her folder. She didn't really understand where the sudden interest in her music had come from; no one had seemed to even notice that she was always writing before 'Twinkle Town' had been chosen for the Spring Musicale. She supposed perhaps it was simply because of the drama (that no one could ignore) that had ensued after Troy had tried out for the musical.
"Nothing really," she said, looking at him, almost as if wondering to trust him. "Just a bit of music." Well, she could let him know that much, as most everyone would have been able to figure that on their own.

"Hey, music's neat. How do you write that stuff anyway?" Xander asked. He wasn't too interested in music but he didn't understand how people could write it out. That was a pretty cool skill.
She seemed very nice, he hoped she would be able to chill and not be too freaked the entire time he was talking to her. He give another friendly smile as he awaited her answer.

Kelsi grinned, rather intrigued to try and explain. "Well, there's a staff you see....well, actually there's multiple but..." She managed to trail off. "Anyway, the staff is basically just a group of horizontal lines and you place the notes upon it in the order you want...and place them higher on the staff depending on how high the note is to be." She hadn't really had to explain it before; it was rather odd to do so. She assumed Xander would have seen music written out before; it couldn't be hard to figure out. For her at least, it was second nature.
"Sorry...I'm not very good at explaining."
