Ah, the bowling alley. It's old wood floors, scuffed up and colorful balls of various weights, the neon bowling shoes that smelt of cleansing shoe powder and distant, rebelling feet...everything was as it should be. It was a comfortable place, a place Jude knew he could go to to escape and just be himself. School was similar but there were still rules there, you had to sit and be taught; in the bowling alley you could just goof off. That's what Jude had come for, some goofing off.
He sat on a paint chipped, plastic seat in front of the computer, his orange shoes clashing with his blue jeans and black t-shirt. Jude typed out his name on the score list, his deep brown eyes watching the screen and his fingers dwindling over the 'finish' button. A solo-game, it was a lonely prospect, made even lonelier by the empty lanes besides him.
"Why not." He muttered, after what seemed like minutes. Then his finger lowered on the key and his game began.

Max Summers entered the bowling alley with his sister in tow. He was there to have a good time, at least this lame town had a bowling alley in it. He had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth as he turned and saw a sign that said no smoking. He stopped and shook his head in annoyance. Max sighed and rolled his eyes while muttering something. He took it out of his mouth and flicked it into a trashcan. Well, it wasn't the end of the world, he could always light another later.
He walked up the the counter and slapped some money down on the counter to get some shoes and a game. He looked around and saw one person playing. The person looked familiar.

Zooey was following her brother with a slight smile on her face. They were going bowling, like they used to back home, this should be fun. She looked around the bowling alley, taking it all in. She turned, looking back at her brother who was flicking his cigarette into the trashcan. she looked at the sign that had instructed him to do so and had a slightly amused look on her face. Her brother had to obey a rule, that was always funny to see.
She came up behind him as he slapped the money down to get the shoes for them. She said her size and looked up at her brother who was distracted by something. He was staring at the person who had started a game. Well, it wasn't a girl so why was he staring? Zooey followed his gaze, staring at the same person, who was he? She then recognized him, "Hey isn't that-" she was cut off by the person giving them their shoes.

Jude got up and walked to his dark blue ball, the swirled color would have been pretty if not for all of the scuff marks from use. He dipped his fingers into the holes and took a step up onto the wooden floor. He lined his feet with the markings, his eyes eyes were on the pins, he was totally focused (or would have been, if not for those nasty must-smoke urges that were constantly harping). With a determined stare he took his first step, ready to get a strike.

Max grinned and completed his sister's question. "JUDE!" he screamed, completely ignoring the person behind the counter. He ran over to him and grabbed him in a hug. He let go and smiled, "So, you all by yourself?" he chuckled, "What gives man." This was great, someone they knew. Bowling really would be fun.

Zooey smiled and shook her head. She took her brother's brightly colored shoes with hers off the counter. She took the change and put it into her pocket. She walked over to the boys, "Hey Jude." She smiled, still holding the shoes.

Jude was just letting go of the ball when out of the silence he heard, "JUDE!" This had totally thrown off his concentration and thus the ball fell from his fingers onto the other lane. Oddly enough he got a strike...too bad he wouldn't get the points.
"Wha-" Suddenly two arms had wrapped around him with such force he almost fell over. He would have reacted sooner and decked the guy one but he was in so much shock. Luckily he hadn't punched him because it turned out to be his best friend, Max!
"Max!" He exclaimed, grinning happily. Suddenly things were looking up, it was apparent that this game would become a whole lot more interesting. "I got bored sitting at home by meself. What was I supposed to do!" He laughed. "Hey! Jude remembered his game and ran to the computer, when he got there he looked back at his friend. "Care to join me?"

Max scoffed, "Do you even need to ask?"He laughed, "of course, I'll join you!" He then glanced at his sister as she came over and joined them.
"Hey Jude, make that two other players," He put an arm around his sister, "unless sis just wants to watch." Max turned to Zooey and give her a look. He smirked lightly, knowing what was to happen next.

Zooey scoffed, sometimes her brother's mind went to places she didn't want hers to go. She shrugged his arm off and nudged him in the ribs with her elbow, "Max!" She shook her head, "You know I came to play, not watch you two have all the fun." Zooey turned to Jude, "Count me in."

"Great!" Jude replied happily. He quickly etered Max's name onto the screen and then looked up when the two siblings began to tease eachother. He grinned, finding their banter amusing. Things were so much more relaxed now, and any time they were together; it sort of felt like they were a family.
"Hey, Zo, what should I put you in as?" Jude asked, finding her name too long to enter. He could put Zo, or ZoE, but he felt it was up to her.

Max laughed and nudged his sister back. He grabbed his shoes out of her hand and sat down on the bar above the plastic seats where you were supposed to sit. He slipped a shoe onto one of his feet and began to tie it. Max glanced up at his sister and Jude as they continued to talk.

She didn't seem to mind or notice that her brother had taken the shoes from her hand. It was a normal thing, just something he would do. Zooey smiled at Jude, "Zo would be fine, thanks." She took her shoes and sat down in one of the plastic chairs to put them on.

"Alright." He hit enter and their names suddenly appeared on the screen, a little white arrow pointing to his 'J'. Jude stood and went to the bowling ball that had come through to the machine next to them. He took it and went back to their lane, looking at Max to see how he responded to remembering that he had caused Jude to toss his ball into the wrong lane. He put his focus back on bowling and lined up.
Ka-Krash! Was the next sound as Jude had gotten many of the pins down, no strike, though..not like the one he had lost to Max attacking him. He was a little bitter, but he would get over it. Jude turned, smiling at his friends as he awaited the returning of his ball.

Max raised an eyebrow as Jude waited for the ball on the wrong side then he remembered what had happened and found it slightly amusing. He watched Jude take his turn and grinned as the pins fell. Max nodded his head, "Nice shot." He was slightly teasing him. He hopped off of the counter and sat down on one of the seats. "So Jude, how do like this place so far?" He asked for his friend's opinion before he gave his, and if his friend knew him well, he knew that Max's opinion was coming.

Jude got his ball as it came out and picked it up, now turning to look at Max. "It's fine, I guess.." And that was truly what he felt about it. He was easy like that, said what he meant and meant what he said. He knew Max wouldn't be satisfied with his answer but wouldn't hold it against him for it's blandness. Besides, they both knew it was what Max felt about a place or subject that mattered and that Max would probably put into words the heart of what Jude meant or felt.
